On foot
Orange · Easy
The easier one. A 4 km shaded loop along the lower slopes with a gentle amount of elevation gain. This is the family trail — dogs on leads welcome.
GPX · Coming SoonRed · Moderate
The honest middle child. A steady climb through wooded kloofs onto the first shoulder of the ridge and your first real look at Hartbeespoort Dam from above.
GPX · Coming SoonBlack · Advanced
The full traverse. A serious climb to the crest of the Magaliesberg, then a ridge walk past the Cape Vulture colony cliffs. Not a soft day out.
GPX · Coming SoonOrange means your gran can do it. Black means earn it.
On wheels · Enduro
Purpose-built gravity lines designed by experienced riders around the mountain's natural rock, from Skywalker to Darth Maul.
Stage 1
Your gravity-fed handshake with the mountain. Long ridgeline descents, wide berms, sweeping turns and speed.
Stage 2
Patience and precision. Off-camber rock gardens, step-down ledges and tight corners. Momentum must be earned.
Stage 3
Welcome to the dark side. Steep fall-line chutes, natural drops and foot-out switchbacks. Not for the timid.
Stage 4
Unfiltered, fast and cheeky. Natural doubles, blind crests and wide-open straights.
Stage 5
Redemption and rhythm. Big banked corners, rock sections and flowy speed. The perfect closer.
Trail questions
Orange (4 km, 80 m): easy, suitable for all ages and first-timers, ~1.5 hrs. Red (5 km, 360 m): moderate, comfortable if you exercise regularly, ~2.5 hrs. Black (10 km, 680 m): advanced, fit hikers only.
For Orange, comfortable shoes and water are enough. For Red and Black: proper hiking shoes with grip, 2+ litres of water, sunscreen, snacks, and a fully charged phone.
Roughly 1.5 hours for the Orange loop, 2.5 hours for the Red route, and 4–5 hours for the full Black traverse.
Yes. Each route is colour-marked on the mountain — orange, red and black blazes — and the MTB stages are signposted.
The Orange loop is usually fine. We don't recommend the Red or Black trails in the wet, the rock gets slippery.
Yes — the R80 adult trail fee covers both hiking and MTB access.
No booking needed on weekends and public holidays — just arrive and pay at the gate.
A helmet is mandatory on all stages. Full-face helmets and knee/elbow pads are strongly recommended for the Black and Expert stages.
